Safeguard notifications is a feature that allows you to receive Hypercare notifications through alternate channels (email or SMS to your phone number) in case they do not successfully get sent to your mobile device (e.g. in situations where your internet connection is poor).
When we detect that a mobile device that you are logged into did not receive one or more Hypercare notifications, it is flagged to send a backup notification to another preselected method (see below). You get a certain amount of time to read the message itself before a backup notification is sent out:
- For general messages, if you do not read the message within 5 minutes of the undelivered notification, we will send you a backup notification
- For urgent (!) messages, if you do not read the message within 3 minutes of the undelivered notification, we will send you a backup notification
- For STAT (!!) messages, we will send you a backup notification immediately.
Note that the email and/or SMS backup notifications will not bypass DND/silent modes set on your device.
In order to activate your backup notifications, follow these steps:
- Tap “Settings” in the bottom bar
- Tap on “Notification Settings”
- Tap on “Receive Safeguard notifications”
- Switch the toggle on to receive Safeguard notifications
Once the toggle is switched on, you will see an expanded list of the email addresses and phone numbers that are associated with your profile. You can choose one or more of these options to receive backup notifications. To phone numbers, we will be sending SMS messages, so make sure that phone number is associated with a device that can receive them.
You can also choose to add another email address or phone number to your profile if you do not see the option you like, which will walk you through the steps to verify the email address or phone number you are trying to add.
This feature will send a backup notification if it detects any undelivered notifications and you do not read the message within the waiting period. For example, let’s say you are logged into an iOS and Android device at the same time, but you leave your Android device in a place with no internet connection, but you have your iOS device with you. If someone sends you a message, and your iOS device receives a notification as it usually does, but the Android device fails to receive the notification, you will receive a backup notification to the channel selected. This could result in duplicate notification. Just another reason not to keep yourself logged into too many mobile devices at once (on top of privacy/security reasons)!
Backup notifications are not sent if there are missed web platform notifications.
